THE FAMILY HISTORY INDEX

NEW IN THE MUSEUM IN 2023

Family historians can now easily search for records of their Renwick ancestors using the Museum’s new Family History Index.
The Index shows which records the Museum holds for 773 families who have lived in or around Renwick. It covers the period 1850 to 2023.

In the Museum’s Research Room there are cemetery records, family trees, birth, death and marriage notices, obituaries, biographies of fallen soldiers, lodge membership records, and hundreds of photos.
The Work Room is the place to find family stories on posters on the walls, published family history books, and a survey of Renwick houses and their builders, owners, and occupants.
The walls in the Watson Memorial Library are hung with large portraits of early settlers.

Many families such as the early BRYDON, FRASER, GIBSON, HAINES, MILLS, NEWMAN, TAPP and WATSON families have multiple entries in the Index.

Others have only one mention, but that one record may be the missing
piece in your family research.

To find out if there are records of your family, and to see the records, come to the Museum between 10am and 2pm any Monday (except public holidays)
or, email us and we will check the Index for you.

I have a newspaper clipping from 1920 about a house fire on Percy St. in Renwick. My great grandfather’s brother, George Finlay lived on the same street and is mentioned in the article. Also mentioned are Mr. F. Britain who occupied a nearby house and Mr. A. Brunette who owned the house that Mr. Britain lived in. I would like to know what number George Finlay lived at and if the house is still there please.

    Hello
I am researching an ancestor named Augustus Vaughan (1827 -1882)
I think he lived in Renwicktown as he advertised his trade as a tailor in the Marlborough Press from Nov 1860 until June 1861.
He appears to have lived at the Woolpack Inn and Store.
Later his advertisements appear in Picton 1865, where I expect he moves on.
I am wondering if there might have been a census taken in 1860/61, or any other way of tracking him you might be able to assist me with. Thankyou.
